Very slow speeds with Google Drive

What is the problem you are having with rclone?

Max upload/download speed 1MB/s with Google Drive. With my internet the maximum should be 5MB/s.

I have tried changing drive-chunk-size, and im using my own client ID/API key.

What is your rclone version (output from `rclone version`)

1.52.2

Which OS you are using and how many bits (eg Windows 7, 64 bit)

Windows 10, 64-bit

Which cloud storage system are you using? (eg Google Drive)

Can you please include a log with debug -vv on it and share that?

I had that too the last day. So I did some speedtests to see if it's me directly but I could utilize full 6mb/s unfortunately not with drive. However today everything is fine again. You can never really know if the problem is on your side, google's or your provider or anywhere between (depending on isp they may not have any direct peering, also ixp could be to blame).

Is your problem consistent like every day? What does a speedtest(.net) say about your upload speed? May be worth to try renting a vps, install wireguard (openvpn is harder to configure without throttling) and then check the upload speed. That way you can minimize the possible interference sources. Tho this requires some more effort.

Is this what you wanted? This time i uploaded without a VPN on and it managed to get to 1.5 MB/s. Still slow.

Is this what you wanted? This time i didnt have a VPN on, so it managed to get to 1.5 MB/s, still slow though. If i have a VPN on and go to a site like speedtest.net, it doesnt slow my internet speeds at all.

It gives me 40 Mbps which is about 5 MB/s

I dont know about a vps but i have tried with and without a VPN and it's still really slow.

I see. You could try to upload a test file to drive using their browser version. If you are under windows you can open a task manager (performance -> ethernet) to see your send and receive rate as drive web version only shows remaining minutes but no transfer speed. But I guess that will also result in the current speed you are experiencing.

Maybe using another device e.g. when you have desktop and notebook it may be worth to check if there is any difference.

If you used vpn and the speed is still slow it is probably the ixp or google itself and definitely not your isp. Ultimately you may have to contact their support and tell them about your issue with low upload speeds. Rclone itself should not be the problem here.

I just tried uploading a test file through my browser. Using any other browser than Chrome, the upload was slow. Only Chrome uploaded faster (I couldnt see speeds with task manager, only the ETA time).

I have had this kind of a problem before/currently with different apps. I have asked around but no one seems to know a fix. If im downloading something with a browser that's not Chrome (no matter the site), the download is SUPER slow. When downloading anything with Firefox, i never even get 1MB/s speed. It's mostly around 500KB/s. For reference, through Steam or Chrome i get around 11MB/s with or without a VPN.

Same thing with just watching YouTube videos. YouTube's "stats for nerds" shows my connection speed at around 8000 Kbps, which is about 1MB/s. On Chrome, YouTube uses my whole bandwidth. Same goes with downloading videos with youtube-dl. The max download speed using it is around 1MB/s.

I have tried to connect to my phone's internet, our other router and my own router with and without ethernet cable. None of those change anything. I don't even know how to start troubleshooting that.

windows has something called AutoTune and i know this can get disabled.

i would run this on both your computer and brother's computer.
netsh interface tcp show global

To tweak AutoTune
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal
and these are possible values
disabled : uses a fixed value for the tcp receive window. Limits it to 64KB (limited at 65535).
highlyrestricted : allows the receive window to grow beyond its default value, very conservatively
restricted : somewhat restricted growth of the tcp receive window beyond its default value
normal : default value, allows the receive window to grow to accommodate most conditions
experimental : allows the receive window to grow to accommodate extreme scenarios (not recommended, it can degrade performance in common scenarios, only intended for research purposes. It enables RWIN values of over 16 MB)

try the following as tests

disable ipv6 and test
have rclone bind to a ipv4 address using https://rclone.org/docs/#bind-string

I did this and noticed that two of his settings were different. The AutoTune was "disabled" on my computer and he had it as "normal". I switched it to "normal" and now rclone, youtube-dl and youtube on firefox work like they are meant to.

The other setting that was different was "Receive-Side Scaling State". Mine is set to "disabled" and his is "enabled". Should i change this or not?

Any idea what could have changed my AutoTuning setting?

EDIT: Forgot to say thanks. This problem with Firefox and youtube-dl had been bugging me for so long. I weren't able to find a solution before. I had asked around on many different places but no one knew what was causing it. So a massive thanks to you.

No. A little over a year ago I upgraded my PC (motherboard, processor and RAM). I reinstalled Windows 10 Pro using Microsoft's own media creation tool.

To @enkerrohah glad everything is fine now. My best bet is that you either did that manually or some program changed that (most common cases would be issues with anniversary update and/or some usenet/torrent program).

The reason why Steam wasn't affected is that they can use TCP or UDP in their internal downloader however you actually always use UDP by default as it is generally faster for simple file downloads.

I highly doubt that i changed it manually. It probably was a windows update since i have had problems with them. I also do have qBittorrent but the problems started before i downloaded that.
