"Unlimited" alternatives to Google Drive, what are the options?

according to Re: Dropbox Advanced - Page 37 - Dropbox Community they will at the bare minimum let you keep what you have for 5 years with no price increase. Who knows what will happen after that. But as of right now if you sign up as a new customer you will only get 5 TB/user. Basically copying google, except at least Google gives you potentially more space every 90 days

Yeap - so who was early is OK-ish. For the rest it is game over. Now let's see what will be Box move...

Customers using less than 35TB of storage per license—over 99% of Advanced customers—will be able to keep the total amount of storage their team is using at the time they’re notified, plus an additional 5TB credit of pooled storage, for five years

This is the first group

customers utilizing 35TB or more of storage per license, we’re committed to working with you. To make this transition easier, you’ll be able to continue utilizing your current storage amount at the time you’re notified, plus an additional 5TB credit of pooled storage for one year

This is the other one

< 35 TB all good for 5 years, but no new free space will be added
35 TB+ utilized, new plan / or you can keep your files for one year only

But time will tell I guess

Has anyone received their extra 5TB/user with their Google Workspace Enterprise plan after 90 days?

So, I've one year to increase my internal storage capacity :o Damn.

@hari9, Yes, last month Google bumped me from 25TB to 50TB.

That's not what he meant. He meant has anyone gotten them to perform that bump again. A while back they were saying they could do it once every 90days. But only right now has 90 days passed for any of us.

I'd gladly keep paying 100$ a month on my locked account if after 6-9months it unlocked  So would many others. On the flip side. If they refuse, a lot of us will probably stop.

@left1000 correct, I'm asking if anyone got their second bump after their initial one. So if you had 5 users, the first bump as to 50TB & 90 days later Google said that another 25TB bump is possible every 90 days. I also am happy to keep paying if that holds up.

Dropbox is still offering unlimited storage if you sign up for Dropbox Enterprise but you need 25 Accounts or so

Storj works well, and is quite fast, it is my recommendation for non-unlimited.

storj works well but is much more expensive than alternatives like iDrive e2

True, all depends what you're looking for.

What is advantage of Storj?

Decentralized, you're not reliant upon a DC, your DC is everywhere, across the globe.

But what does that really mean to me, is it really useful for it to be decentralized? If I upload encrypted files to the cloud it’s just as secure. Sorry if I’m being dumb lol

Storj from technical perspective is very interesting concept. Data storage is decentralized using very clever algorithms. But all solution is not truly decentralized. There is central entity - if it is gone than all is gone. Still if you want to support them you can give it a try. Only time will tell if they survive. But the same applies to all other players. So never rely on backup in one place:)

tldr: 90 day request limit still in effect, required to be utilizing at least 80% of your current storage allotment, and you'll only be granted 2-times the amount of storage your currently using. I'll add more users, get up to 80% then make my request.

Detailed

I talked with chat support this evening, requesting additional storage. I asked for 400TB but the agent said I need to be utilizing at least 80% of my storage before I can request additional storage. I'm currently using 20TB of my 80TB limit on my Google Workspace account. However even with that, I would only be granted an additional amount that is double what I am using (not allotted). The rep suggested I add more users, fill it up, then submit a request so I can get to the 400TB limit. So, I'm pretty much just going to be copying over (a few times) the library I migrated out.

Chat Transcript

Google: Thank you for contacting Google Workspace Support. My name is [redacted] and I'll be working with you today. While I read over your message, is there anything else you'd like to add?
Google: Hello, how are you doing today?

Me: Not really. I'd just like to submit a request to get additional storage as I need to do some backups of a few of my computers and my current allotment is not enough.

Google: I acknowledge your concern and will be glad to assist you on this.
Google: Before we get started, may I know your first and last name and your phone number with international country code? This is for future reference or in case we have to call back.

Me: [redacted]

Google: Thank you for providing your name and contact information, [redacted].
Google: May I know, if you looking to increase the storage space for your entire organisation or just for one specific user.

Me: The entire organization.
Me: Whatever I'm able to do for the largest amount. If it needs to all be attached to one user, you can set to my account.
Me: It pools anyways, so it's not really an issue.

Google: Yes.
Google: I see that currently you are having 80TB.

Me: Yes, and it's not enough for me to migrate some of my backups.
Me: Which is why I haven't utilized all of it yet.
Me: I have about 400TB of backups I need to get to the cloud.

Google: May I know, if you have requested for the additional storage already in last 90 days?

Me: I have not.

Google: Thanks for confirming!
Google: So your total requirement is 400TB?

Me: Well, I'm growing all the time. Right now, that's is what I can migrate over.
Me: But I do backups for client computers, as well as 4k editing, and all of that.
Me: So, it grows significatnly fast.
Me: *significantly

Google: I see.
Google: Thanks for confirming.
Google: [redacted], as per the process atleast 80% of your current storage should be occupied.
Google: To grant the additional storage.
Google: And for one request, the storage will be granted 2 times of your current storage.

Me: So, I need to fill up the 80TB, use 80TB worth of bandwidth, not to even know if I'll be able to get more?
Me: And even if I get more it'll only be bumped to 160TB?

Google: What I suggest you is, create few more user accounts in your Google Workspace account and make it around 200TB in total. And then fill the data upto 160TB.
Google: Then we can raise a additional storage request, which will give you 400TB in total.

Me: Ok, then I will wait.
Me: Thank you for the advice.
Me: I'll reach back out when we're ready.

Google: Sure, no problem!
Google: I hope that I was able to answer your inquiries for today. Would there be anything else that I can help you with?

Me: No.

Google: Please be informed that I will proceed to close the chat and the case. Keep in mind that you can reopen this case within the next 30 days, if you have any other questions related to this issue.
Google: You've been very kind and pleasant to work with. I personally appreciate that.
Google: Thank you so much for chatting with Google Workspace Support. Have a great day.

Thank you for sharing!

Well that is way better than the 5TB/user/90days.

This is good, hard, detailed data. Thank you for posting it, and please keep us posted on how your case progresses.

So far it's going very slow. With the 750GB/day upload limit, I'm going to need to setup multiple remotes with multiple users in order to upload the 120TB's. Even then it's going to take a while and a ton of bandwidth...
