"Unlimited" alternatives to Google Drive, what are the options?

Hi everyone, anybody have any experience getting 2 remotes (Dropbox and gdrive) in 1 fused folder?

Basically, im moving to Dropbox advanced since i also got the dreaded gdrive email, but since I may or may not have procrastinated too much lol and gdrive is just going into "read-only" mode my plan is to have all new linux ISOs get uploaded into Dropbox but keep all the old ISOs on gdrive while I work to transfer all 190TBs over so that Plex/Sonarr/Radarr can pick everything up as seamless as possible.

It would also be from an unencrypted gdrive to an encrypted dropbox (as recommended)

Interesting. I am Over 1 PB and 1 User and got No Email. So i think Google Don't go by size.

yes.

with
rclone union
or
mergerfs

as two options to check out.

GUYS - PLEASE READ THIS REGARDING DROPBOX

We are a team of over 10 users on DB Advanved, we hit 400TB a month ago, and now we have been told they are unable to add more storage due to a system error, however this " error " has lasted a month. After filling numerous tickets, I was told their is nothing they can do, except offer me 10TB/week. No more 100tb or 50TB increases. Their "Advanved Customer Support" told me they CAN NOT accommodate our requests anymore. They apologized for not being able to meet our teams needs, and offered to cancel our account and do a partial refund for the month. Or, deal with the 10TB/week and see if something changes. This was not from a regular chat rep. It was their advanved team. So either we hit some sort of hard cap, or the overwhelmingly amount of users coming from Google has depleted their storage capacity and therefore only giving 10TB/week to accoints now. With over 10 people, this is not feasible for us. We would fill that up in 2 days. Ive been in contact with "enhanced support" to increase our storage and " advanved support" for billing and im getting the same answer. We cant give you what you want. The mass exodus and influx of new users ( and probably some petabyte users before the crackdown ) have ruined it for us now. Will it change? Who knows. But look in the datahoarder reddit and you will see people all over complaining about not being able to get space. The unlimited train has ended :frowning:

If you have DropBox, its not truely unlimited. We even bumped our users to 20 and they still would not give us more. Just an FYI....we now are looking at the last viable options, which are OneDrive for Business or Box.com

I have an Dropbox account with layeronline. They have 5PB pooled storage and 2.7PB used. I submitted a ticket asking them if it's easy to add more storage, they said they are a premium partner of Dropbox and it's no problem to get more space. That being said, I only have about 120TB to move.

Similar issue here. 392tb and they gave me the engineers excuse.
Last week I got 10tb, this week let's see....

FYI, LayerOnline had this issue for a month, the “error” was the same for them as well. The space was full for almost one week and Dropbox couldn”t extend it (like they said). Now it is sorted out, but who knows how long. Datahoarders should move to other storage companies

today my Workspace account has been BLOCKED with great advance. No way to write new data, no way to use worksheet and other app.
The message and the banner I started to receive one week ago say that starting from 60 days from NOW my account will be limited and will become READ ONLY.
Unfortunately TODAY is blocked, it is read only right now.
Google says: add users.

It was the same for me. They said 60 days warning + read only after that, but in truth it was read only from the start...

Since they started applying quotas, workspace has become a complete mess.

As so many of the services rely on the space allocated to your account it becomes a minefield, as they all seem to calculate usage at different times.

Admin area shows a value that only updates every 24 hours, email and drive show values that change a bit more quickly but they are still different, the desktop app is different again.

Email will randomly stop working within the Grace period.

and support are completely clueless.

And the undocumented clause that you can only get additional storage once every 90 days. (They have admitted that it is not in the terms)

I have been trying to get straight answers out of support for the past week, and most of the time you just go round in circles. It's like groundhog day.

From what I can gather from google (had a conversation with support the other day after escalating a ticket) When you ask for space if they do agree to give you more, you will only ever get another 5TB per user each time (every 90 days). So the claim of "As much space as you need" is complete nonsense, I might even go as far to say it is a lie.

I use GDrive inside the WorkSpace to backup my local NAS. I am going to switch the backup somewhere else but in the meantime they are liar.
Thay blocked my account from one day to another without any notice while the mail message says that I have 60 days before my account will switch to read only.

As of now, do you have your drive in read-only or your whole account was disabled? I need to decide if I'll migrate sooner or not haha

The account is not disabled. It is active.
I can not upload anything... I can not create documents... in other words I can not do anything that write something.

FML :frowning:

I forget to check my email for a couple months and

I figured for 20$ a month they wouldn't care.

Now I've only 3 weeks left, but the daily transfer cap is gonna mean this takes several months to migrate to another service, if another service will even take me :frowning:

I would've upgraded to 5 users if they asked me to, but they never did :frowning:

I figure I might as well at least ask google if upgrading to 5 users would convince them to raise my limit.

But how the heck do I contact support? I go to the admin console and click support and it just puts me into the "help assistant" which is a bot, I don't know how to write to a human?

You can ask for a person and will transfer you, I think the daily download limit is around 10tb, more than enough to move somewhere else if you need it

Oh that's sweet, I swear a few years ago daily download was 750gb.

Of course I sort of have no where else to go, with rumors dropbox might crack down as well, but I guess if support turns me down, dropbox it will have to be.

Edit: I asked workspace support, and they said "yes". So I added 4 more users. I expect that the support agent was incompetent or lying though and that this won't work and I'll still have to migrate to dropbox. And while I'm setting that migration up I'm paying 500% what I would've paid in read-only mode before I took this action. But if the download limit is really so generous, migration should not take long at all.

I'll report back later.

EDIT: They've bumped me up from 5TB to 50TB (when adding 4 users would've only set me to 25TB by default.) Although if I don't reach 150TB I'll have to migrate anyways. I'm willing to believe there is a limit to how rapidly I can request increases, if today I got an increase of 5tb per user, maybe in X units of time I can request another 5tb per user.

Should I wait a day or a week before pestering support again? (If they don't repeat this step 4 more times, I'll have to migrate to dropbox, and the sooner I learn that, the better, but also, if I don't have to migrate, I won't.)

I definitely won't be paying them for 12months of read-only mode, as is implied to be what is needed in this post "Unlimited" alternatives to Google Drive, what are the options? - #293 by blim5001 if that ends up being where I am stuck I'll just migrate to dropbox as fast as I can. This is very likely. That I will end up in the same limbo as users above in this thread. But well, I'm a sucker for believing the support person who I tried REALLY hard to get a clear answer out of.

750GB is the daily upload limit, the download limit is indeed 10TB. I've been transferring between 9 to 10TB (I don't max it out, so that I don't hit the limit when using it for streaming etc. at the same time) every day directly to my Dropbox account without issue.

Any recent experiences with sync.com?
My Dropbox team got stuck at 290 TB and support has problems to add more storage for a week now.
I have to migrate another 100 TB from gdrive elsewhere.

You might as well try pestering them now and see if you get the same responses I got.

It will at least give you an answer now rather than wondering for a week.

Here are some of the responses I got from multiple support requests:

Please note that requests are granted upon reasonable request at Google's discretion [1]. Enterprise Standard and Enterprise Plus customers who want additional storage can request more storage as needed by contacting Google Support once every 90 days.
To clarify, adding more users (at least 5 in total) will allow you to be eligible for increase storage request but not for unlimited storage since more storage may be available at Google's discretion upon reasonable request.

and

Checking your domain we were able to understand that you have 5 users and also requested additional storage. As per our data the last additional storage quota was granted on 2023-05-31 15:09:59.187000+00:00, making your total pooled storage 50 TB from 25 TB. You can add additional storage once every 90 days.

and

Here the team replied, in spite of having 5 Users with your account, only once per 90 days we could assist you with additional storage in this case (as last time as on 2023-05-31 last we granted additional 25 TB with your account (50 TB in total), as of now if you request for more you need to wait until your next grant possible after 2023-08-29 to increase storage with your account

and finally this one when I questioned where to find this 90 day limit in the terms:

I understand you are looking for the 90 day clause in the Terms and service. I apologize if there was confusion in my previous email. the Terms and service does not include the 90 days time frame. It is not a clause. The 90 days time frame is given by the system and it vary from account to account. In your case the system has given a 90 day span. I have seen instances where the customers are given a 150 - 250 day span. it totally depends on the system and is not generated manually.
