Random files showing as unavailable in Plex occassionaly

So I’ve been ignoring this for quite some time now but it is getting frustrating. When I look at my Plex library, there are quite a few random files that appear to be unavailable in Plex. I initially thought this was just a Plex issue until I started digging and found that while the directory is there on the mount, the actual file is missing (obviously available on Google Drive).

I am running version v1.44

I’d move to the latest stable version to start.

Can you share a log of what happens when you see a file missing?

I don’t see anything obvious that indicates that a file is missing. My guess is that it is Sonarr deleting the file and rclone taking some time to purge the cache of that directory to reflect the new file it has added?

Are you deleting files outside of the cache? Can you share a log of what happens when it occurs?

No I’m not and I can’t see anything outside of the ordinary other than additions that are taking place. I’ll dump the log (It has just been cleared) at some point today but it happens throughout the day. If I look at Plex right now, there are several items that are unavailable but are in Google Drive.

Sonarr is using the /mnt/gcache which should delete the file via the rclone mount.

I run a pretty similar setup, but I don’t use the cache backend and definitely don’t see the issue.

I’m guessing it’s related to the cache backend but not sure as the bug posted above was related to deleting things outside of the cache.

If you can snag a log of it happening, that would help.

I think I’m only using these:

–cache-dir=/mnt/stagingstorage/rclone

I’m not actually using a cache backend?

Those flags only work on the cache backend so my assumption was you are using it.

In your rclone.conf, you’d have a type = cache in there.

Not sure if I should create a new thread on this or not, but I am having a similar issue. I am getting a file unavailable for one of my movies, the rest of my plex is fine. The file is there on my gdrive, but for some reason no matter what I try and do it will still show as unavailable. Adding that when emptying the trash, the file is there on plex but still shows as unavailable

Not sure what you mean.

If you empty trash, any scanned files that were marked unavailable are removed.

You’d need to share the logs and more data on the error.

I just came to post exactly the same issue. Its happening with TV shows, but I havent noticed it with any movies.
Nothing odd in the logs.
When I remount it, the files come back, and I can scan them again, but its wasting a tonne of time!

I’m using ubuntu 18.04

Running rclone 1.46

I have empty recycle bin turned off in plex.

In plex, a bunch of tv shows at random show the red garbage can.

If I check my mount, the files are missing. They are there on my google drive through. When I remount it they come back.

The files that go missing seem to be at random.

Here is the log, but there is nothing to see in it.

The first 3 lines seem to be new. (probably from playing with my mount) I’m not using FUSE, as its just a mount (downloading happens somewhere else)

What’s an example of a file that’s showing unavailable in Plex?

Can you check the file system when it’s mounted and ls -al the file there?

You seem to not have a config file?

You are using 2 machines you said?

You’d need to match up the logs as you would need to be in DEBUG so you can see if the one drive updates 1 minute after it was added to the other.

I’m not saying there couldn’t be a bug, but need to align the logs to actually file something if we want to figure out how to get it fixed. I thought the last set of polling items was corrected.

The only thing I see open is back to deleting something outside of the mount.

So like having it mounted on one machine and deleting it from a different machine.

Can you share more details on work flow and setup? The more information that you can provide on how it’s setup and how that file go there, the better we can figure it out.

Did you add that file on another machine?
Did you delete the file somewhere else?
What version are you running?
What’s your mount settings?

Pretty simple workflow compared to what I have seen on here, but I am also a noob.

I just have gdrive and gcache setup, no crypt

All files are uploaded directly to gdrive from chrome (I am not sure if there is a better way, I have just always done it that way.) What I was trying to do was change the file to a higher resolution file. So there was a 720p file, but I uploaded a 1080p and removed the 720p file and that’s when this started to happen.

If you have the full log from when you added the file and when you went to search for it, that would be good.

If you can recreate it, capture the log with the add and the remove and share that as there should be some events in there.

Any reason you have the info age so low as 2 hours isn’t much? Can you move to the 1.46 stable as well as that’s what I was testing on.

If I repeat your workflow, you manually copy a file using the browser to your GD. Rclone should pick up that file within a minute and it’s added.

When you remove a file, you do that from the Web Browser too? If so you should also see a polling for changes messages for that as well and it should expire it out of the cache.

To get some bang for the buck, you should really up the age to like 48 hours and add in the --dir-cache-time and make that like 44 hours.

That helps in terms of speed and less API hits.

Also, the plex integration really slows things down as all scans and such only use 1 worker. I’d keep that off imo.
