We are excited to introduce RcloneView, a new GUI front-end for the well-known open-source Rclone project! Our goal with RcloneView is to make cloud storage management even more accessible by providing a user-friendly interface for Rclone’s powerful backend.
Key Features of RcloneView:
• A fancy and intuitive GUI for Rclone
• Easily browse and manage files on your cloud storage services
• Save favorite sync tasks as jobs for easy scheduling and automation
• Efficient monitoring and logging for all file transfers
Whether you’re already familiar with Rclone or just getting started, RcloneView aims to simplify the process of syncing and managing your files across multiple cloud providers.
We would love to hear your feedback and suggestions as we continue to improve RcloneView. Please feel free to share your thoughts here on the forum or reach out to us directly through our email (rcloneview@gmail.com).
I’ve posted this announcement under the “Feature” category, but if this isn’t the most appropriate place, please feel free to move it to a better category.
Thank you, and we hope RcloneView makes your file management even smoother!
Just looking at the website, it looks like a really nice polished tool.
I assume this is a commercial product? How much do you plan to charge? Who is your intended audience?
How do you handle some of the more advanced things like installing FUSE, especially on macOS?
I assume that under the hood, it is all run through rclone rc? As a side note, I am surprised more tools don't just treat rclone rc like an SDK for all cloud storages of all kinds
For now, RcloneView is free for personal use, but we plan to offer commercial licensing for businesses. We’re also considering introducing premium features, but we haven’t finalized the details on cost yet. Our target audience is anyone who’s looking for a more convenient front-end to manage their cloud storage with Rclone.
Regarding macOS and FUSE, as you know, OSXFUSE requires SIP to be disabled, and the installation process isn’t straightforward. Plus, you need to repeat it after macOS updates. For now, we recommend using nfsmount instead of OSXFUSE for easier setup.
And yes, under the hood, we use rclone rc. RcloneView can connect to both local rclone and remote rclone instances, providing flexibility based on your setup. We use rclone’s API to control rclone under the hood.
Thanks again for your input, and feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.
at first glance, the app looks mega awesome. Very good work!
The first thing I immediately missed was an import function for importing the rclone-config.
I have about 20 remotes that I would like to use but don't necessarily want to enter manually.
Are you planning something like this in the future?
You can set the location of your rclone configuration in the Settings. After updating the location, please click ‘Restart rclone’ to apply the changes and restart RcloneView’s internal rclone.
Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad you like the look of RcloneView.
As for educational/academic licensing options, we are definitely considering it. While we don’t have specific details yet, it’s something we’re looking into for future releases. We’ll be sure to update the community as we finalize our plans.
In the meantime do you have an issue with me recommending your software to folks who might find it useful?
I'm currently involved in a project at a major university in the US where we're trying to reduce our Google Drive storage due to them eliminating the unlimited offering that they had for educational/academic institutions.
We have no issue at all with you recommending RcloneView – we’d be happy for more people to find it useful!
If I may ask, what storage solutions are you considering to replace Google Drive for your project? We’re always interested in learning more about different storage needs and environments.
This is great news for Windows and Imac users. I would venture to say there are many linux rclone users who would also benefit. I certainly would love to use this, but right now it is useless to me.
This is a very nice development, thank you! This makes Rclone useful even for the less technical people now. Nice how you made the MacOS application, in the installation screen, a walking owl to the application folder!
Super that it also reads the existing Rclone config directly, makes it hugely flexible.
First feature request, maybe an option to also configure specific Rclone flags by a connecting, instead of only the global flags now at the settings tab.
Thank you for your feedback! We completely understand, and I’m happy to let you know that we are currently working on a Linux version of RcloneView. We’ll keep the community updated as we make progress.
