Installing Rclone on Win 10

Thanks for your help. Yes, I am a noob and need to clean out everything from my google drive hundreds of gb of video/photos/documents by transferring all files and folders to an external hard drive.

What is the problem you are having with rclone?

Can not install in Win 10 64. I download 64bit version into C drive, extract, click on rclone app which opens and close a commands prompt that says I should use a command prompt. I open admin command prompt, and it shows C:\WINDOWS\system32>
I paste rclone.exe config
It returns with 'rclone.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

What is your rclone version (output from rclone version)

v1.52.0

Which OS you are using and how many bits (eg Windows 7, 64 bit)

Win 10 64

Which cloud storage system are you using? (eg Google Drive)

Gdrive

The command you were trying to run (eg rclone copy /tmp remote:tmp)

rclone config

The rclone config contents with secrets removed.

hello and welcome to the forum,
i am w10.2004.64bit and i can help.

on windows there is no install, rclone is a portable app.

i suggest that you create a folder, such as, c:\rclone\ and copy the files from inside https://downloads.rclone.org/v1.52.0/rclone-v1.52.0-windows-amd64.zip into c:\rclone\

then from the command prompt, run
c:\rclone\rclone version
and you should get output of

rclone v1.52.0
- os/arch: windows/amd64
- go version: go1.14.3

Thanks but not working....

I created new folder in OSC (C:) and it allows me to call it rclone (no diatrictical marks)
I copied into this folder the unextracted zip rclone files from the link provided and also did the same after extracting and copying the files into rclone.

I type c:\rclone\rclone version into command prompt when it gives me c:\Users\Jack> prompt

It returns with
C:\Users\Jack>c:\rclone\rclone version
The system cannot find the path specified.

rclone.exe is the same as any .exe file.
if you invoke it correctly, it will run as any .exe

do a dir c:\rclone\
post both the command and output

C:\Users\Jack

> dir c:\rclone
The system cannot find the file specified.

run
c:\crclone\rclone-v1.52.0-windows-amd64\rclone.exe version
and post the command and output

I think YES!

C:\Users\Alem> c:\crclone\rclone-v1.52.0-windows-amd64\rclone.exe version
rclone v1.52.0

  • os/arch: windows/amd64
  • go version: go1.14.3

Thank you VERY much (no ideas why this was difficult) and if now correct please tell me how to download all files from gdrive.

good, now you need to create a gdrive remote
https://rclone.org/drive/

C:\Users\Alem> c:\crclone\rclone-v1.52.0-windows-amd64\rclone.exe version
rclone v1.52.0

  • os/arch: windows/amd64
  • go version: go1.14.3

C:\Users\Alem> rclone config
'rclone' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

c:\crclone\rclone-v1.52.0-windows-amd64\rclone.exe config

Thank you. I mistyped the google drive 13 with 14...how do i correct?

ID of the root folder
Leave blank normally.

Fill in to access "Computers" folders (see docs), or for rclone to use
a non root folder as its starting point.

Note that if this is blank, the first time rclone runs it will fill it
in with the ID of the root folder.

so what is the problem now :grinning:

I know...obviously this is not my language/skill and I am not sure what to put in at the prompts to ensure I dont screw up. I just know what I need the end result to be! I will reread the instructions to see if I can work it out but even that is sometimes beyond my comprehension.

sure, i understand.
let me know how i can help.

I have to go home soon...thank you for your help until now. I will try to work it out otherwise will return pleading for help again.
