I assume you mean mount the SMB share locally, use it as a local remote, and then use --local-no-preallocate to turn off preallocation?

yes, to mount the samba share locally using native windows os.
no, as i do not use local remote. i copy direct, like so
rclone copy c:\folder \\server\share
