I wish to re-share/forward a SMB share to a printer on the network because regular Windows SMB “Share Bridging” doesn't work.
i have a howto guide, about rclone smb remote versus native windows os mounting.
and the reason i use native windows os mounts. How to access SMB/SAMBA with rclone
just curios, what is the point of using rclone mount instead of built-in windows os network sharing ?
what reported the error, rclone, windows desktop or what?
for sure, it is possible to share a rclone mount over a network.
i have done it over LAN, tailscale and openvpn.
Native Windows 10 would not let me so I wanted to try third party solution.
The setup is:
Intranet A: Asus router “NAS” with its built-in SMB + VPN server.
Intranet B:
Multi Function Printer
Windows laptop that runs 24/7.
The laptop is used for various remote desktop and VPN needs year round. I want the printer to access the “NAS” I have already connected through the laptop, as a form of bridge device. I asked AI for solutions and tried my own ideas too without success.
Basically I first tried mounting the NAS as a network drive in Windows, to then create a network shared folder from the laptop on that intranet, something that any printer can find (because you can't setup Tailscale/OpenVPN/WireGuard etc on printers and other embedded systems). It stops working when I try to create a shared folder on the laptop because of some access error in Windows settings. I don't have the error written down.
Do you know a simpler way for this setup? Tailscale is incredible for devices that support it (but printers can't be used)
