What is the problem you are having with rclone?

Goodnight everyone!

I have a question with the full cache mode.

Is it normal that once the cache is cleared, rclone will re-download and cache the contents on disk? This happens to me every time I do a scan

I thought that the contents of the "vfsmeta" directory would be necessary so as not to download a part of the files again and cache them.

Is there a way to prevent content that has already been cleared from the cache from being downloaded again? In this case, only the newly added content and the content that the user is currently viewing would be downloaded.

After the cache time expires, it would only be downloaded when it is going to be viewed and not when the library is scanned

I am currently testing a library of 52 movies and am using the following configuration for testing

--vfs-cache-mode full --vfs-cache-max-size 50G --vfs-cache-poll-interval 10s --cache-dir D:\cacheprueba --poll-interval 10s --dir-cache-time 2m --vfs-cache-max-age 2m

Once rclone clears the cache, when I rescan it reloads the movies into the disk cache

You would have to share a full log file that shows the issue as that isn't how it works.

There's no file being redownload or even accessed at all in that log.

After rclone had completely cleared the cache, I did a library scan again and the movies started downloading again. When I say 'download' I mean the proportional part that rclone downloads from the files, I'm not sure I explain myself correctly

As a result I have that every time I have to scan new content, the content that had already been cleared from the cache will be downloaded again

You'd have to recreate the error and share a log as an example as the logs you've shared show no issue at all.

The thing about all of this, is that I'm not sure if it's really a bug that vfs cache full re-downloads the content when I do a new scan after its cache time has previously expired.

I've retested by reducing the flags.

The result is the same:

When I perform the library scan the movies are cached on the disk.

I applied a time of 30 seconds of time in the vfs-cache

rclone mount PELICULAS: O: --vfs-cache-mode full --vfs-cache-max-size 50G --cache-dir D:\cacheprueba --dir-cache-time 5m --vfs-cache-max-age 30s

When the content is erased and I scan the library again, the movies are re-cached on the disk.

There is no record of the content already cached so that rclone will not cache the movies again once the useful time has expired?

Based on your flags, you have asked rclone to only store items in the cache for 30 seconds so once the time expires, it'll remove it from the cache.

What are you want to happen and we can share the right flags?

In my mount, I want this happen:

  • Use a cache size on my local disk of a max of 800G
  • When I copy something to the mount, wait an hour before uploading it
  • Keep the files forever and only remove from the cache when my size reaches limit

So I use the following flags on my mount:

--vfs-cache-mode full --vfs-cache-max-size 800G --vfs-write-back 1h --vfs-cache-max-age 9999h

9999 hours is 416 days so that's my "forever" in my setup as it will the oldest / not used files from the cache on the poll interval.

After several days of testing, the problem really was with Plex.

Rclone and mount work fine, for some reason Plex was asking to download the files again.
