Storage is unlimited for our premium members. However, it is necessary to limit the cold storage (= files never downloaded) when you exceed several TB. Any abuse (example: 10TB stored and no files downloaded for weeks) caused the automatic sending of a warning e-mail inviting to justify this extreme use case. In case of no answer to this email, some not downloaded files could be deleted.
I’m still hoping to hear from at least one person who has received the extra 5TB/user for their Google Workspace Enterprise plans after the initial bump.
tldr: After my 90 day waiting period and successfully utilizing 80% of my current Google Drive storage, I requested additional storage and was granted 5TB/user that has seemingly been attached to the account, not the users.
Detailed
I originally had a G-Suite account that was converted to a Workspace Enterprise Standard account. With one user I was using about 120TB when the over-utilization emails began. I then added 4 more users, totaling 5, so I could request additional storage. They ended up adding 5TB/user to the account (assigned to the account, not the individual users) which only gave me 30TB total. I was then informed I needed to wait 90 days before requesting additional space.
After 90 days I added 30 users, allocating a total of 180TB to my storage (5TB/user plus my initial 30TB) and was informed I needed to utilize at least 80% of storage before I was able to make another request. I've since utilized 144TB, submitted the request, and was granted another 5TB/user (not double what I was using as previously informed) which put my storage limit to 335TB. I've now deleted the other 30 users leaving me with a 185TB storage limit (my original 30TB + the 5TB/user for 31 users). The users are still recoverable for 20 days but even after they're permanently deleted I'd expect the storage limit to stay at 185TB as the previous increase has.
The support interaction consisted of, "Can I has, plox." "Here go."
Have you (or anyone on thread) ever used DriveZPresso or Vaultdrop? The former seems too good to be true (one time lifetime purchase for unlimited). Scam advisor claims their site is legit...but I don't know. Vaultdrop is legit, and I used them briefly about 5 or 6 years back (before GSuite). They are unlimited, but were clunky. Free for view only (which is lame), $4.99/mo for adding upload capability, and $9.99/mo to have sync and download as well. You can share files, supposedly play videos in the browser and some other stuff. Sort of like Sync (which I briefly tried when trying to find new home after Google capped storage), but seemed slower. Has anyone used one of these lately? I still have Vaultdrop in free mode from years back (it is a lifetime account), but before I go switching it to paid and moving stuff again, I'm hoping someone may have more recent experience to tell if it has improved any and maybe advise how to work with it, since there wasn't any guide before. I just thought I'd mention these two as they were not coming up in other folks posts, though my knowlege of one is nil and the other is outdated.
While, on a personal level , I sincerely hope you'll be able to keep the current storage level indefinitely, I advise others not to plan with this in mind, as it makes no sense at all for Google.
On a flexible plan, users can be added for a single day and then deleted. Do the math.
And we have already seen that Google has no problem whatsoever in reducing storage allocation far below what would have been logical.
The only solution that might be kept in the long run is 5TB per active user every 90 days, probably within reasonable limits yet to be ascertained.
Archive users are cheaper than normal users but appear to have the same 5TB allowance. This might be a half-way house between keeping the users and removing them. It's unclear if they count towards the 5 users to be able to request more storage.
Did you keep the 5 users for the 90 days or did you go back to 1 user for that time as well?
How long did you pay for the 30 users/what did it cost you?
oh, 54% price increase additionally to the space limitation... why? means if you want to keep your data as read only archive for a while (until google starts to delete data) it is not 17,30EUR anymore but 26,64€
geez, they are for $$$
Can confirm this. Happened today. I got no warning mail, because my Storage growed slowly. Yesterday i reached the 10TB mark.
I turned email notification for deleted files on. Got not a single email. but today almost half of my files were deleted. the oldest files.
This is normal. They increased prices April this year.
Just contact sales and ask for some discount. Depending on amount of licenses, type and duration you get different quotas. On my personal account I only have a single user with flexible plan which I didn't want to change. They gave me 30% discount which is good for 1 year then you have to ask for it again.
However it's not unusual to get even higher discounts. Some Reps want to push you into a 2-3 years contract (MS also likes to do 3-5 for higher discounts) but not worth it the extra ~10% discount.
You might be auto eligible to receive discount. Try to cancel subscription and see if they offer some discount or so. Both Google and MS will usually do that but it's not always happening and sometimes it's just 3/6/12 months.
It also helps to know how to properly talk with a Rep.
Also you might can trick the system. It can happen that if you want to up or downgrade a license that they offer you a discount as well. Usually this discount persists even if you change plans after again. These kind of discounts are usually not high 10-20%
Immediately after requesting my first increase and getting it, I deleted the extra users.
I wanted to transfer over 120TB as fast as I could and with the 750GB/user/day upload limit, it seemed the fastest way. The entire time I was trying to find better ways, troubleshooting servers, so I didn't even realize that it had been over 2 weeks with all those users. I haven't been charged yet but I'm unfortunately expecting $300 as they prorate the costs on a daily basis.
