haha, that's insane
Currently we are using about 60 TB of our 25 TB quota, solving the Google storage capacity with a reseller (Czechia has no direct support for Enterprise customers).
Couldn't have stated it better. Long live rclone, and @ncw is the best open-source developer ever, along with everyone in the team currently helping him.
Don't forget they do take sponsorships, and donations!
Be careful when migrating / uploading data to your Box account. I just got this mail after migrating 160 TB in the first month from my GDrive account:
Dear Box Admin,
Thank you for your continued use of Box. As a follow-up to our previous email sent on August 17, 2023, we are writing to inform you that we have implemented preventative measures to limit your upload bandwidth to comply with Box’s Fair Use Policy. This limit will remain in place until the end of the current month, August 31, 2023.
We ask that you take the necessary steps to reduce your bandwidth usage to under 1 TB per month per user. For more information about what drives bandwidth usage, please refer to this article. You may also reach out to Sales to discuss options, including buying additional seats, which will allow your account to use more bandwidth.
After this period ends, Box reserves its right to pursue additional remedial action should your use of Box continue to violate our Terms of Service and/or our Fair Use Policy. Such action may include, but is not limited to, reducing the bandwidth available to your account and potentially suspending your use of the Box Service.
If you no longer wish to remain on the platform, we will expedite your cancelation and refund for the remaining duration of your account.
Thank you for your understanding and for being a valued Box customer.
Sincerely,
The Box Team
I have a business account with 3 users, so it looks like max. upload is 3 TB / month. Im done with migrating now but i might get additional seats just to feel a little "safer" while using this provider.
Nice move from Box.com
Glad I switched to local storage and not Dropbox. They do not limit the storage space that is made available to you, but the traffic. This way you don't violate your own contracts because you still have unlimited storage space.
Well yeah its just a marketing gimmick. You get unlimited space but please be a nice customer and dont use it else you get banned. Hope that 100 TB Seagate drives get released sooner than 2030, then its time to switch to local for me again...
We have received the same email with an Enterprise plan and 3 users after migrating approximately 90 TB of data to Box (out of the initially planned 165 TB). Today, we are unable to transfer a single file anymore. We will contact them to inquire whether we can complete our migration before transitioning to more moderate usage.
Wow, i guess i had luck to push those 160 TB completely until getting that mail. You still are able to download tho correct?
and do you have any limitations now? like you cannot upload (or slow) or you cannot download (or slow), if yes, how slow it is now?
I didnt try to upload anything since, dont want to stress it more until tomorrow. Download is no problem.
Yes, indeed, downloading is not a problem.
Uploading is completely blocked, even with their web client.
do you have any error msg what a rclone DEV can implement as for a switch like if this error received stop any copy/move? like for gdrive we have this on limits?! (I'm just thinking loudly as it could help the community later on)
Yes:
Failed to copy: Error "rate_limit_exceeded" (429): Request rate limit exceeded, please try again later
But now, it seems to work again with very small files, which wasn't the case a few hours ago.
Last question:
All 3 users were affected? No upload for all?
Other users don't seem to be affected. I have just uploaded a few big files to their accounts with no problem.
Quick update: other users also seem to be affected. Sometimes it works, sometimes not
No reply from support at the moment. Will try a phone call tomorrow.
I'm getting the same thing with box using chunker. However, large files can be uploaded but smaller files like JPGs cannot. Will do more testing.
Update: Looks like no uploads are going through now. 429 Rate limit exceeded.
Yeah let me know what they say about you migrating first before the moderate usage. I asked before, but they never seemed to answer that question for me. We are at 319 TB at the moment, but think we still had around 50 TB left.
Do you still have any more slots available for the Box.com account?
It's over Box is compromised as well. From Amazon, to Google to Dropbox to Box. They are all pretty much aligned now. Maybe once the revenue drops one will lessen their grip but who knows when that will be and they can always turn the dial back down. It's not worth it. Go Local or rent a dedicated storage server.
