Would you mind sharing which app type you setup through the Box dev console and the settings you used as well as your rclone conf? I've been banging my head against a wall for 3-4 days and keep getting running into problems (see here and here).
Problem with BOX is the insanely low API limit of 100,000 calls per month.
Wow, did any of you learn anything!? Unlimited cloud storage for a low price is not true.
All these providers will go the same route as Google did. You want to hoard data, you have to pay up.
100, 200TB, 1PB, yea ya'll going to get Dropbox, etc to enforce limits next. They are already starting.
The truth is even harder: true unlimited storage (cloud or not) at any price is just not possible.
But I think you miss the point: the thing is not to find a low-price unlimited cloud storage that will last 'forever', as we ourselves won't last 'forever' either (as Keynes famously said: “In the long run we are all dead”).
The thing (at least for me) is to find a cloud storage that is "unlimited enough" (ie, I can fit all my data) and lasts for "time enough" to be useful while it lasts. Google Drive lasted for me about 6 years. If Box lasts even half of that, it will have served its purpose.
hmm, looks like google might have updated their api.
As it seems you can longer upload anything once over quota.
googleapi: Error 403: The user's Drive storage quota has been exceeded., storageQuotaExceeded
That's the same for me. Started not being able to upload about 5 days ago.
What do you folks mean? You are still in the " 60-day" period but can't upload anymore?
Yep, although my latest grace period is only 14 days!
You’ve exceeded your pooled storage limit and your account has been placed in a 14 day grace period.
Ho-ly CRAP. Google must be working overtime to find new even worse ways of being nasty.
dropbox is restricting it even further:
We are currently seeing unexpected growth across Dropbox Advanced, and as a result are currently only able to grant 1 TB per month per team.
If your team needs more than 1 TB per month, you can purchase a space pack from https://www.dropbox.com/plans
We understand this may be frustrating and are working to resolve this for our customers.
This is a temporary measure we have put in place due to unexpected growth across Dropbox Advanced. We do not yet have an estimate as to when we will be able to grant larger quota increases.
no information visible on the additional space packs, still the "As much space as needed, once purchased" is falsely promoted.
So I guess it's bye-bye to Dropbox as an storage option for any new user with more than 1TB of data...
I think it won't start with 1TB. I would expect 10TB per user - as it is what probably price covers. But growing beyond it will be probably killed or made real PITA. Le't see when Box wakes up:)
What did you expect, lol. Great job everyone!
HEADS UP: If you are in one of those Dropbox pools of 3 people paying to split the cost and have encrypted data and tons stored (50,100, 200TB) expect to be kicked off very soon. I contacted Dropbox and got in touch with someone and they know what is going on and plan to have a "remedy" for you very soon (i.e. account closed and no refund).
Dropbox Acceptable Use Policy has actually this clause (among long list of obvious ones):
You agree not to misuse the Dropbox services ("Services") or help anyone else to do so. For example, you must not even try to do any of the following in connection with the Services:
...
- use the Services to back up, or as infrastructure for, your own cloud services;
It is their safety plug they can pull when abused too much.. And with Google exodus they were hit hard.
Yep, same for me.
I only have 15 TB and I am unable to upload anymore via rclone cli or via the web UI.
luckily Dropbox are cool about giving full refunds, account was 10 days old. Guess I will try Box...
Read their FUP: https://www.box.com/legal/fairusepolicy
To help prevent excessive usage by any one user, Box may limit user bandwidth if it exceeds the thresholds described below.
Box monitors two different types of bandwidth:
Download Bandwidth for Shared Links: Files downloaded from an open access shared link (applies to the owner of the file).
10GB per user per month for Individual plans
2TB per user per month for Box Business plans
Download/upload Ingress/Egress Bandwidth: Files uploaded and downloaded (applies to the user who uploads and/or downloads the file).
1TB per user per month for both Box Business and Individual plans

I just got off the phone with my point of contact at Dropbox, and he informed me that all new users with the advanced plan will be limited to 1 TB of initial storage. Afterward, they will receive only 1 TB of additional storage per month. However, all current users with their data already online will be able to keep their existing storage capacity. So, everyone who is already using Dropbox will be locked into the amount they have uploaded.
He mentioned that they had a meeting about this plan earlier this morning. The reason they are implementing it is that their servers are getting hit hard due to the significant influx of users switching over to Dropbox. At this point, they are unsure how to manage the increased demand and are taking this tentative step to cope with the situation.
yeah they have all cards in their hand. It is only question of balance between "abusers" and normal users. They can accept some as long as all boat floats. But when it starts sinking abusers will be off the board quick.
Now it is totally appealing and misleading selling "unlimited" storage accounts. When you are offered unlimited storage space for USD 25 per month why would you even look at normal market? It is private company and they can do what they want. But they should also be kept accountable to their promises - which at closer scrutiny are actually no so much. But it is up to legal interpretation. I think it would be much better if market evolves into $1 or $2 per TB/month than all this "unlimited" BS.
It was never unlimited. It was unlimited*
- we don't enforce limits now, but can and will if it hurts our profits.
cant run datacenters with out money
I have no pity on them. If legally they have to keep all these PB of data already downloaded I hope it will make them less competitive. Their business their problem:) Google was screwing normal storage market development for long. But google has deep pockets. Now when it hits smaller companies playing "unlimited" it will be much more volatile.
