Tagging does not work on Rclone mount for macOS

What is the problem you are having with rclone?

When connecting to the local samba server over apples built in software tagging in finder works as intended.

When connecting over Rclone mount tagging does not work. Logs attached.

Run the command 'rclone version' and share the full output of the command.

rclone v1.64.2

  • os/version: darwin 14.1 (64 bit)

  • os/arch: arm64 (ARMv8 compatible)

  • go/linking: dynamic

  • go/tags: cmount

Which cloud storage system are you using? (eg Google Drive)

It is not a bug but known and documented rclone limitation.

Finder "tags" are stored in files' extended attributes which are not supported by rclone for smb remote.

You can check which remote supports Metadata in docs.
