Rclone comparing hashes without downloading

Hey guys

Could someone inform me on how Rclone compares hashes of files on the remote without downloading the entire file?

Remote: Google Drive

hello and welcome to the forum,

when rclone uploads a file, gdrive calculates the hash and stores it as metadata.
most storage systems do that.

Are you able to view or extract the hashes generated by Google Drive?

Use rclone md5sum remote: to see them.
