Question: Is Rclone a good backup tool for Windows local files?

What is the problem you are having with rclone?

I currently use FreeFileSync to backup local files/directories on a Windows 10 PC (one local disk to another). I'd like to use Rclone instead.

Just looking for people's experience and thoughts about using Rclone this way.

What is your rclone version (output from rclone version)

1.55.1

Which OS you are using and how many bits (eg Windows 7, 64 bit)

Windows 10 64 bit

Which cloud storage system are you using? (eg Google Drive)

Local Disks

The command you were trying to run (eg rclone copy /tmp remote:tmp)

Rclone sync

The rclone config contents with secrets removed.

N/A

A log from the command with the -vv flag

N/A

IMO, rclone isn't a backup tool so I wouldn't use it as such.

i would not use rclone for local.
the logic is not to use a one tool for both local and cloud.
i often backup a local folder to a backup server and to the cloud.
if there is a bug in rclone that would affect both local and cloud.

i use fastcopy for that, sometimes robocopy on windows servers.

if you plan to use rclone for local, might check out --backup-dir for incremental backups.
