Is an alternate file name encryption method still in the works

Hello,

I use Rclone every day and love it. One problem that I frequently run into is how long the names of encrypted files can get.

I remember reading a while back that there was discussion of implementing some other form of file name encryption that would use a map file in order to keep track of the file's metadata, so that random short names could be used.
I was wondering if this is something that we still may see eventually, or if it was ruled out as being too unwieldy.

Thanks

Check out:

If you are using dropbox/onedrive then base32768 name encoding helps a lot.

We haven't done that yet.

However there is an in progress PR to implement cryptomator vaults which does do exactly that I believe.

The disadvantage is that it slows certain operations down a lot.
