Dropobox where directories have a "dot"

What is the problem you are having with rclone?

Linux Fedora 41, some usernames are joe.smith. when I sync to Dropbox folder called Backup, I am getting
Backup
joe.smith
-- joe.smith
--- Maildir
-- Maildir

All the files are repeated in the Maildir.

I rclone from the Fedora 41 to my NAS over SMB.

sorry it is not clear really (for me at least) what the issue is.

As your sync is:

rclone sync /mnt/raid10/BACKUP/Mcq Dropbox:BACKUPS/Mcq

Your local ls -al is clear. And I assume it is your /mnt/raid10/BACKUP/Mcq

Can you post rclone ls Dropbox:BACKUPS/Mcq and indicate what is wrong?

And where joe.smith is from? It is nowhere in your commands.

In general:

  1. show what is your local directory content
  2. what is your sync command
  3. what is your destination content and why you think it is wrong

Yes, that is where all individual user home directories get copied from my Fedora 41 box.

It is enormous... Lots of files due to large email stores. I did a directory to 2 levels

Dropbox:
I only present the mailboxes. Look at kc2njv (in "bold"). it repeats itself. The same for mailbox "panynjshomrim".

Thanks

Let's focus on this one.

Post results of:

$ rclone lsd /mnt/raid10/BACKUP/Mcq -R | grep panynjshomrim

and

$ rclone lsd Dropbox:BACKUPS/Mcq -R | grep panynjshomrim

It should be very short

The command ran again (it's a cron job) and deleted it looks like the 2nd directory...

And where the problem is with panynjshomrim?? Both source and destination are the same

You can run:

rclone check /mnt/raid10/BACKUP/Mcq Dropbox:BACKUPS/Mcq

to check if both dirs are sync correctly.

I think it is now working.

Only items missing were excluded files (Thumbs.db, etc.).

Thanks once again!!!
