Dropbox & vfs help needed

Iam using dropbox as my main drive due no api/upload/downloda limitation.
The only downsize is slower play eg it takes around 10 seconds for movie to start playing.

My setup

Iam not sure if I should add flag --vfs-cache-mode minimal ( did not saw it in any other scripts )

p.s. There is no difference if I mount with or without vfs-read-chunk-size 128M --vfs-read-chunk-size-limit off --cache-workers 16 \

If you are not having trouble with applications giving errors then you don’t need it.

Have you tried setting --vfs-read-chunk-size smaller?

Also try setting --buffer-size smaller. 1GB is a a lot of buffering time even for a high bitrate video - try knocking this back to 16MB and see what happens. Then try doubling it if it causes problems and repeat.

Iam not using cache drive and i wonder does --cache-workers 16 do anything if you have only vfs

No, anything starting with --cache- only works with the cache backend, except for --cache-dir

Dropbox took around 4 seconds
Gdrive took 51 seconds ( not sure why is that slow since i did not use rclone gdrive mount for over 2 years … i was using plexdrive before switching to dropbox )

I make 2 conclusions from that

  • For dropbox the vfs flags don’t seem to make a lot of difference where as for drive they do.
  • Seek performance is much better on dropbox

From that I would expect dropbox to be quite a bit faster starting playing than google drive - is that what you see?

On dropbox you are seeing startup times of ~10s. This is time for about 5 seeks which seems like a plausible number you might need to start playing a video.

Yes my dropbox startup time is less then 10 seconds, but I saw users reporting gdrive with vfs startup is around 2 seconds ( I had that as well with plexdrive when I was using gdrive )

We would need someone else to test it with their gdrive eg @Animosity022 could you try it since i saw you were tweaking performance a lot.

Do you see any errors in the debug log? I’m curious what it’s doing from a log perspective.

No errors in log, its just slow for some reason.

p.s. Do you have dropbox for test to see which one is faster on your end.

So the load definitely matters without a doubt.

I have a few streams going as opposed to my no stream test this morning and the results mix up a little.

I tested with a dropbox account as well as I have a trial for the month, but overall drop is definitely just slower.
