Dropbox unable to decrypt (names too long)

What is the problem you are having with rclone?

I seem to be having a file path too long issue, even when using base32768 encoding for my Dropbox. I originally setup my dropbox mount with regular Google Drive settings, but noticed a few errors on the rclone logs due to long file names and paths. I decided to make brand new crypts, with base32768 encoding in order to not have any issues. Now, I am seeing even more issues, when I thought this change would negate any potential issues.

An important thing to note is that I originally had very simple obfuscation on (instead of standard) for filename_encryption as well as base32768 encoding, and then I deleted all my files (confirmed on dropbox's end as well), and used the same config/keys with only base32768 encoding

Is there anything I am doing wrong? Thank you!

How did you get the files in the new remote as you mentioned you set it up prior and changed?

Deleted all the other files. Started completely from scratch. I got them from qBittorrent.

Can you expand on that? You just copied them up from a different source and didn't convert anything?

I'm trying to figure out how to test as I can't read any of your file names as I can't tell if the forum is junking them up or you have emojis or whatnot in the file names.

No, I didn't copy anything from any difference source. I started this new crypt fresh. I deleted everything I had on Dropbox (this is a new account), and I started from scratch. The files (including the ones that are erroring) on my current crypt are all brand new, and I got these brand new files from torrents on qBittorrent, and then moving them to the crypt.

Also, yes, they do have emojis

Ya, but people seem to be having great success with base32768 (apparently the defacto with dropbox/onedrive).

Also, LOTS of these files have those "emojis" or whatever they are. Im only getting for certain files, idk.

Has to be something specific then with that file.

Control F'ing the encrypted file name shows nothing on dropbox. Idk how to check for it locally

You'd want to figure out the directory and do some trial and error I'd imagine and find it in the GUI.

This is a tree of my two crypts (while mounted with the keys). There are two drives that are being addressed with the names too long error; crypt-tv and crypt-movies. /Media/Movies/ is crypt-movies and /media/TV is crypt-tv. TV has the least amount of files, and so I manually decoded each one to make sure it is decodable and existing on dropbox. ALL (the .bin, the folders, and the mkv files) are visible in encryption form on the dropbox UI.

A test via rclone cryptdecode shows the same thing, as successful:

I do not have ANY of these files as you can see above. So where are these errors stemming from?

Adding on to this, I see on my initial tree on /mnt/remote, that there is a random folder called "S\302\271\247x\206\343\213\241\245_\273*C\340". Since crypt-tv and crypt-movie are on the same base dropbox folder and have their own Media folder (that later becomes Media/TV and Media/Movies), is this extra folder because of this? Doing an ls -lh on my /mnt/remote folder shows the same amount of files and folders as on dropbox, so I assume its fine.

But with all this being said, I am still clueluess as to why those above errors are occuring, considering those files do not exist. I don't want to be hundreds of terabytes in, seeing all those errors scale up (even if it's not harmful(??))..

So the assumption is something made a random folder and that's causing the issue?

I am having quite a tough time reading the output as the characters are easy for me to parse.

I've used dropbox for a bit of time now and haven't seen any rogue files nor did I ever see that on Google.

Perhaps clean it up, watch for it again?

Yeah. IDK what it was all about. I made a new crypt, and its going well. Just sucks I had to make a new crypt, but at least I caught the issue when having a small amount of data.
