Dedupe compare two different local folders

I had a random thought can rclone do something fancy and dedupe locally? Obviously for this the duplicates can be in the same folder with the same filename, but there could be a different folder with the same structure and hierarchy as the first which may or may not contain identical files that also are in existence in the first.

I noticed there was a global flag of --compare-dest can I use this with dedupe and have it find duplicates in two directories?

i would be careful, as dedupe is designed for google drive.
it might not have been tested for local file system.
and i think it can only find dupes with identical file names

there are many free open-source dedupe programs designed and tested for local file systems.

If you want to compare two folders. Just run a copy or a sync with the --dry-run and see what the results are.
