Cache - Windows mount consuming a lot of data with Plex

Reading through the rclone documentation it appears that mount is still an experimental feature in Windows.

I have installed the latest WinFSP and rclone and mounted a drive (encrypted with cache) using nssm with the following command: mount --rc --log-level=INFO --log-file=“D:\rclone\rclone.log” --config=“C:\Users\user.config\rclone\rclone.conf” --allow-non-empty --allow-other --drive-chunk-size=32M --dir-cache-time=72h --cache-chunk-path=D:\rclone --cache-db-path=D:\rclone --cache-db-purge --cache-workers=12 --cache-tmp-upload-path=D:\rclone --cache-tmp-wait-time=1m media-crypt: Z:

When Plex server is running this appears to download about 10GB per hour (library scans only set to partial when changes are detected). On a Linux server running the same version of Plex and rclone, only about 20GB of total bandwidth is consumed per day. This has been consistent for the past year so I have only been using the Windows Plex implementation as a backup. I’ve also noticed that navigating to a folder can be slow compared to Linux.

Is this an issue with the implementation on rclone mount in Windows and is there any workaround to reduce bandwidth usage?

This error is concerning… Can you read that file under Windows? How about under Linux?

When Plex server is running this appears to download about 10GB per hour (library scans only set to partial when changes are detected). On a Linux server running the same version of Plex and rclone, only about 20GB of total bandwidth is consumed per day.

I suspect this is probably the Windows OS doing things like indexing the drive, checking for malware, that sort of thing. If you scroll down to the end of this page there is a great answer showing you how to disable indexing.

No, it doesn’t play past the first few seconds in Linux or Windows so perhaps a corrupt file. I’ve noticed that with some anime releases before so won’t discount that.
