Bandwidth dropping out of nothing

What is the problem you are having with rclone?

Sometimes the bandwidth of my rclone server is dropping out of nothing, at the moment i don't know if it's something related to rclone, dropbox or something else, but i'm still investigating..
I'd like to know how often does rclone update dropbox access_token?
at least the first thing that i think is while this is happening, is that rclone is updating the dropbox access_token, although i'm not sure, i have to install the logs first to see if i can find out something.
also i'd like to know if guys are aware of any bug like this? or anybody had a similar issue?

also, the rclone version was not posted, is it the lastest version v1.58.0 or what?

if the bandwidth drop is from the token refresh, that should be easy to prove.

I fully agree.

These are my additional thoughts:

It looks like the drop-out starts at the receiving side, and then the sending side slowly fades out. Similarly, the kick-in starts at the receiving side and then slowly propagates to the sending side. This indicates an issue in the network/data path from Dropbox to rclone. It could be Dropbox throttling or issues with token refresh, but then I wouldn’t expect the high spike on kick-in. I would therefore initially look for network (connectivity) issues, where traffic is blocked for some time along the path.

Perhaps the http is only served within the local network (LAN), then it could be glitches in the internet (WAN) connection.

I would therefore run this command with continuous output in a shell and then monitor the output during a drop-out:

ping dropbox.com

It's was a great idea, i hadn't thought about it.
but i did this test, i was pinging while the problem was happening, and i was receiving responses normally from api.dropboxapi.com, around 2ms.

need to know the exact time period that the problem happened?

log using -vv - only see one small issue.

could be an issue with your local dns server.

did not see rclone trying to refresh the token
did not see rclone attempting to use any bandwidth to transfer/stream files.

and --multi-thread-streams=500.
imho, that is a crazy high value to use.
have you done testing to confirm that value is optimal, instead of just using the default value of four?

but as you can see almost now it happened for 4 minutes.

I'm using the nameservers from the datacenter where i rented the server.

after the bandwidth drop, i exited because i thought i captured the log of the problem

maybe i'm doing something wrong..
let me explain first how i'm doing
i'm using two ports on rclone simultaneously

Port 80: I'm serving rclone for multiple users (without logging) if i try to log it, the log size goes to gigabits in a moment, which is hard to open.

Port 8080: I use rclone with logs enabled only for myself to try to debug this error.

do you think if this is an error the log will only go to port 80, because i'm serving content for all people on port 80, but on port 8080 it's only for me, on this port i only let the log enabled to try to capture something, but i didn't capture anything as you can see.

Hello, i put rclone to only log errors using --log-level ERROR, and you were right, this is the error that is causing the bandwidth to drop to 0 mbps
all the times that there are errors on the log, it matches the time when the bandwidth drops.

I have searched on google about this error, somebody said it could be something with ipv6, and i disabled ipv6, but i'm still geting this error.

i disabled ipv6 adding those lines to the file /etc/sysctl.conf then applying sysctl -p:

net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6=1
net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6=1
net.ipv6.conf.lo.disable_ipv6=1

i have also added this flag --bind 0.0.0.0 but didn't help.

do you guys can suggest me something else to try to fix this error?

you can force rclone to use ipv4
https://rclone.org/docs/#bind-string

tho no idea about this, maybe @ncw does?
URL query contains semicolon, which is no longer a supported separator; parts of the query may be stripped when parsed; see golang.org/issue/25192

based on the docs, i think that should be --addr :80, tho 0.0.0.0:80 seems to work.

set the bind address to the local ipv4 address of your machine.
for example, --bind=192.168.1.2

That should work. There is an bug in the go runtime which means 0.0.0.0 binds to ipv6 addresses too

I was able to fix it by adding ipv6 to my server.

i did just a little bit of test using --bind=my_local_ip_address instead of --bind=0.0.0.0 i can't say if this way can also fix or not.
but if somebody come on this post in the future give it a try.
