What is the problem you are having with rclone?

I'm using rclone serve webdav as the target on Joplin sync. The synchronise sometimes results in

Last error: Error: PUT 193448bddb3c47718803aa31da07bcdf.md: Unknown error 2 (405): Method Not Allowed

The attached log covers the period around the completion date given above. It does not show a 405 response being sent to the client.

Run the command 'rclone version' and share the full output of the command.

joplin doing PUT thru serve webdav onto protondrive throws 405 for me too sometimes. that backend gets weird on overwrite/move.

id keep joplin off serve webdav for proton:
-rclone mount Proton: /mnt/proton --vfs-cache-mode full
-point joplin at a folder under that mount
-or sync a local joplin dir up with rclone sync on a timer

if you wanna debug the serve path:
-rclone serve webdav Proton:joplin --vfs-cache-mode full -vv --dump headers
-watch if its PUT or MOVE that returns 405

Thanks for the advice, but some of the clients are Android; I don't think I can mount drives.

I changed the sever command as you suggested. Here are some observations from the attached log.

  1. At the time of the error, only one client was syncing, Linux desktop.
  2. The problem seems to be linked to a particular file : 193448bddb3c47718803aa31da07bcdf.md
  3. The client reports the error as: Error: PUT 193448bddb3c47718803aa31da07bcdf.md: Unknown error 2 (405): Method Not Allowed
  4. The log shows the file in question to be processed several times before a PUT method is reported for this file (line 1813 in the log).
  5. The log does not report a 405 error.
  6. The log does report an error on line 1812: "WriteFileHandle.New Rcat failed: a draft exist"

I've deleted the file from Joplin and from Proton. Joplin now complains that it can find metadata but not content. That's my problem, not yours. :slight_smile:

android cant use a fuse mount yeah. for multi device joplin id keep proton off the serve path

-rclone sync a local folder to Proton:joplin on a timer
-point rclone serve webdav at that local folder
-linux + android joplin both hit the local webdav. proton only sees the sync

serve never talks to protondrive directly that way, which is where the 405 / draft exist mess shows up for me.

Solved
Thanks to @nite_route my problem is solved and my system simplified. Once I had set up rclone webdav pointed at a folder on my server, I realised that I didn't need to involve Proton at all. My 3 Joplin instances all sync through that folder.

As FYI,

RSAF hosted on GitHub is a document provider for Rclone on Android.

You can connect to your SFTP server using RSAF and, assuming that your phone, no matter where it is, is VPNing into your home network, you can use file system syncing on Android.

RSAF is Rclone on Android. You can even import your config file so it reads all of your remotes that you have on your PC.
