Mount letter within Windows 10

Dear friends,

rclone V1.53.2 runs well on my Windows 10.
When I run the command:

.\rclone.exe sync 'D:\MLFB' myboxcryptor:myboxcryptor/

in PowerShell everything works fine, the files from der directory on my local disk is copied to my AWS S3 bucket named myboxcryptor (I checked with the AWS web interface, the files are online).

I receive a message:

2020/11/06 20:36:56 NOTICE: S3 bucket myboxcryptor: Switched region to "eu-central-1" from "us-east-1"

but this should not be a problem.

My problem is, that I cannot mount my bucket with a Windows drive letter.

With the following command in PowerShell:
.\rclone.exe mount myboxcryptor:myboxcryptor/ H: --vfs-cache-mode full

I get no error message. The following note is printed in PowerShell:

2020/11/06 20:42:25 NOTICE: S3 bucket myboxcryptor: Switched region to "eu-central-1" from "us-east-1"```

But the drive is **not** mounted. When I open Windows Explorer, there is no drive H:\

I then tried with the Web GUI (which is really pretty good). I can access my files in my bucket with the explorer inside the web interface. I can also mount my bucket and I get no error message.

Simply, the drive letter does not appear.

What do I make wrong ?

Thanks a lot for your support !

Guido

P.S.: I am using Windows 10, Version 1809.

hello and welcome to the forum,

as a test, open two command prompts and do a dir h:

  • one prompt with admin rights
  • one prompt without admin rights.

Hi,

great, that's the solution. When I make
'''dir h:''' in the Powershell with administrator rights I can access my bucket.

but how can I mount the h: drive in such a way that I can access it with a normal user
with Windows explorer ?

Thanks a lot !
Guido

yes, that dir h: exposes the problem.
this is a known issue on windows and i have not made the change in this article.
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-client/networking/mapped-drives-not-available-from-elevated-command

i found a work around, to run rclone.exe mount as system user.
another advantage is that you can net share that mount folder and share it with other computers on the local lan or over vpn.

most users like to mount to drive letters, so rclone mount as system make the mount visible to all processes

i do a rclone mount to a local mountpoint like so
no need to mount as system user.
you should be able to run the mount command and see it in both windows explorer and apps with admin rights.
and net share that mount to lan computers.

rclone.exe mount gdrive-a1b2: b:\mount\rclone\gdrive-a1b2

Thanks a lot, the issue is solved.

My problem was, that I have opened the Powershell as administrator, and then the drive
letter did not appear in the Windows explorer.
I now open the Powershell as normal user, and then the drive letter appears.

Best regards !
Guido
