Intercept and grab files before zip

Google has changed "make copy" feature. It now counts as the download quota.

However, when I,

  1. link it with "Add shortcut to Drive"
  2. Add it to a folder
  3. Download the folder
  4. Google will zip the folder before downloading

This lets me download it making it bypass the quota. However, zipping is a pain and will likely need to wait hours before it finishes zipping. Any way for the api to intercept the files before zipping?

have you tried to download the folder that has the shortcut in it?
