fwiw, a while back, i decided to stop storing media files in cloud, moved it all to local.
hard drives are cheap these days, good 8TB drive for less than $120.00 and if need be, sata-to-usb adapter.
My best cost savings in the last few years is moving local. Once the capital for the storage was spent, I've had zero cost minus the power, which is neglible in my case. It's far cheaper for my use case.
Everything is much faster / easier and maintenace is all automated on cleaning up old things.
I don't do things locally, because the internet connection doesn't allow me to have various contents just a click away.
Consider that where I come from, the contents are placed in multiple archives and must all be downloaded, then decompressed and placed in the right folders.
So it's a lot of work for a connection at only 50mbps...
On the other hand, with the server I have 10gbps and I queue up a lot of content and it can be found in just a few minutes.
oh plus I have to get a server...
It's true that I could solve the problem with a Raspberry... but it still costs around a hundred euros
not sure you fully explained your setup, or maybe i do not understand, but add a hard drive to that server?
and stream from direct from server to local, using tailscale.

i also have a cheap cloud vm at hetzner, running emby on it and store media files in hetzner storagebox.
unfortunately I use the translator.
no no I have a virtual server with 10gbps.
This is convenient for me to broadcast wherever I want and have my contents always available, wherever I go.
That's why I didn't create a local server.
It wouldn't work properly with only 50mbps and I wouldn't have much content.

hi the suggestions for the speed problem were just to change cloud.
Switch to Dropbox,Gdrive etc..
