Yep. Btw, a micro instances is free. If you minimize rclones memory usage (turn off buffer for example) its plenty to upload under 750GB per day. That way you don't even need the "free trial credit".
isnt the reason people are recommending compute because rate limits dont happen from google to google?

No. Everyone is recommending GCE, because Google Drive is local to GCE. No need for external bandwidth. It's like copying from external hard drive to computer.
However, Drive has up/down limit per day even if you use GCE.
